Throwing eggs at your bedsheet – Illustrating Netwton’s Second Law
If you threw an egg at your bedsheet or blanket (held from all 4 ends), would it break?
The answer is no. Newton said that the force that the egg would experience, would depend on the ‘rapidity’ with which it came to a halt. If it was brought to a halt abruptly (for instance, if thrown at a concrete floor), the force experienced is much greater than if it is brought to halt slower (for instance, if thrown at water or a blanket).
