Browser plugins and security
The Problem – PlugIns are far behind Browsers
Browsers nowadays, will automatically update themselves (with security updates) by default. Plugins are far behind browsers when it comes to security updates ( automatic updates ).
Java Plugins
Oracle’s Java plugin checks for updates once a month (default setting). And, instead of automatically updating, it shows a little system tray icon that many inexperienced users will ignore.
Plugins are being replaced by HTML5
Browser plugins are on their way out. Once upon a time, browser plugins were necessary – you’d need special video-playing plugins just to play videos on web pages.
Now, HTML5 and accelerating browser development are on the verge of obsoleting plugins completely.
Summary
Try and disable all plugins that are not being actively used. To see what plugins Chrome is running, type about:plugins in the chrome address bar.
