BYOIP and Bitly
The problem statement
Bitly’s IP addresses are hard coded in DNS records (that map a data center IP to a bitly IP).
When the data center VMs move to GCP (or AWS), customers would have needed to change all of their VM IPs in their DNS entries (to the new Google IP addresses).
BYOIP solves this problem by allowing customers to bring their own IP address to GCP (or AWS).
