Caffeine and Mindfulness – Alertness versus Awareness
Often, people confuse alertness with mindfulness.
The two are as far apart as can be.
The impatient driver on the road, or the one person who leaves their faucet running, is most likely highly caffeinated. The driver may also be very alert. But she is not necessarily mindful.
Awareness is just the opposite of alertness. A highly alert (caffeinated) individual is easily distracted by the slightest peripheral stimulus, regardless of the source. All sounds are perceived as noise. A Mindful person’s experience is just the opposite. Any noise is successfully ignored. Inner calm is never disturbed.
An aware person is never ‘alarmed’ by anything.
