Existential angst
From the moment we are born, we are thrust into this world screaming and kicking. From here on, begins a rough struggle to survive.
All our actions are centered around this survival instinct – which leads us to seek control over the ups and downs of life.
However, no matter how much control we seek (or obtain), life will always ‘outsmart’ us. The reason is what the Buddha pointed to as the FIRST noble truth – that all of life is suffering.
In reality, what the Buddha said was that all of life is IMPERMANENCE – nothing is permanent – and suffering is caused by not realizing this impermanence of life.
When we realize that our entire lives are running on some sort of auto pilot – which kicked in from the moment we were born, we start understanding how to disengage this auto pilot.
Instead of being driven by angst, our actions will be driven by empathy and love.
