When asked what the most valuable thing in the world was, Thomas Edison, the inventor of over a 1000 world changing products, said ‘Time’. Time lost can never be recovered.

Buddha would have been in agreement with Edison.

And hence, the Buddha too preached on the importance of time. But not in the same sense as Edison. The Buddha did not feel that time was ‘running away’ and that one needed to ‘do’ as much as possible in the remaining time. Rather, the Buddha sought to detach himself completely from the pressure of the ticking clock. In doing so, he offered his freed up time to others.

Be like the Buddha.  There is nothing more valuable you can offer someone than your time and attention. Read also – Leadership traits they won’t teach you in business school.

I would go one step further and say that those leaders who are so busy leading that they lose time for their loved ones, are probably not leaders in the Buddhist sense. They are just noise creators.
